I was also confused; I was expecting some response along the lines of “We’re on opposite sides of this conflict, so from *my* point of view, you’re evil.”

The Drizz’t analogy would make more sense if Cale were a *night* elf or the equivalent. Or are elves in this setting just generally evil? That would be an interesting subversion of fantasy stereotypes, but from what I see we have only Richard’s word for it. (I checked the website, but I can’t find a Cast page or an About page that might back that up.)

D20 Monkey and Handbook of Heroes are already on the list. I never heard of Flaky Pastry, I’ll need to check it out.

This is the first panel that started it all. It might now be your cup of tea, but I guess somebody must have liked it over the years. I think it’s ok, but I prefer The Order of the Stick for this type of stuff.

Basically Richard is trolling Cale which becomes one of the numerous running gags. It gets better.
Richard is pretty much a Deadpool + Rayne Summers (LICD) meets fantasy murderhoboism.

Richard is also commenting on alignment in Fantasy RPG and characters such as Drizz’t who go against their race’s alignment. Cale is like a less successful but more naive Drizzt.

I mean, I get what they were going for, but only the last two panels actually contribute to the joke. You could cut out literally everything else and the comic would work much better.

Panel 1: *Senseless killing*
Panel 2: “Whoa, did he murder your father or something?” “Flippant attitude toward patricide, LOL!”

Everything before that was a long buildup with no payoff. It seems the intent was to give some context as to WHY Edgy McAngstypants torched the rabbit, but it ends up making no damned sense: “I killed a bunny to prove you’re evil.” It’s just a total non sequitur.

Besides that, senseless killing doesn’t really require any context in a comic about an MMORPG. It’s just what you do for 99% of your play time. I would expect the elf to be more surprised at the level of overkill than the actual killing.

If this sample is representative of the comic as a whole, I can’t even begin to fathom how it’s lasted 12 years.

Another suggestion: Weregeek.
